Self-Defense Encounters are Close, Violent and Fast

“Law enforcement officers around the world have a round in the chamber at all times because they know that seconds count. Law enforcement encounters normally take place at 7 meters or less and are over in less than 5 seconds. It is fast, it is violent, and you do not have time to think. You train to react to the threat and you keep shooting until the threat is removed.”

Lt. Col. Stephen Dade, USMC (Ret.), Marine Corps Gazette, Jan. 2012
