The Evolution of the Jane-Jitsu Program

Years ago, we were approached by a group of survivors. Victims of sexual assault, kidnapping, dating, rape, domestic violence, and the whole gambit of crimes against the woman.

In the beginning, we began teaching women some traditional martial arts techniques, and we quickly found out that the women couldn't retain the techniques in a two or three-hour class. In addition, we were teaching them how to fight like a man, and if you teach a woman how to fight like a man and she goes up against a man through evolution and genetics, typically in that dynamic anyway, men are bigger, stronger,  and more pain tolerant. In a street fight, men typically exhibit the reptilian brain in that when we look at a real street, the Guy punches, the Guy punches back, the Guy kicks, the guy kicks back, and the Guy bites, the Guy bites back, so conceivably if a woman strikes a man she's likely to be hit back significantly harder.

We began reversing this process and teaching them how to "fight like a woman" or "fight like a girl" using their bigger, stronger, more powerful weapons against a man's more vulnerable points—namely, a woman's trunk muscles versus a man's center line. In addition, we put them in positions they found themselves in when they were being attacked or violated and gave them (Reality Based) techniques based on leverage technique and timing rather than speed, power, and strength. We also go out of our way to avoid or minimize strikes to that face. All the techniques are "Gross Motor Skills." We begin by teaching the women the techniques and gradually work up to having a male assistant test the women in a FIST suit.

In my 35 years in law enforcement, I investigated well over 1000 crimes against women. I investigated a good number of sexual assaults and interviewed both the predator and the survivor. As a 26-year-old Detective, I testified in my first rape trial in Superior Court in Westchester County, NY. Both predators were found guilty and were sentenced to 12 and 8 years, respectively.

We also emphasize the preventative aspect of self-defense, empowering women with knowledge and information that will keep them safe. I am the author of "THE NEW SUPERPOWER FOR WOMEN—Trust Your Intuition—Predict Dangerous Situations and Defend Yourself From the Unitinkabls. "
